WISDOM OF THE PROPHETS – PART IV: SUFISM & JUDAISM
With Rabbi Tirzah Firestone, Netanel Miles-Yépez, & Pir Zia Inayat-Khan
April 27-30, New Lebanon, New York
“The Sacred Name, the sacred Word, were always esteemed in the Jewish religion,” says Hazrat Inayat Khan, and thus the theme of ‘remembrance’ of the Divine Name is common to both Sufism and Judaism. Moreover, he says, “Traces of Sufism are to be found in all periods of history, but mostly during the age of Hebrew prophets and ecstatics, who themselves were Sufis.”
In this fourth installment of the Wisdom of the Prophets series on “Sufism & Judaism,” Rabbi Tirzah Firestone and Reb Netanel Miles-Yépez, both close students of Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, Hasidic master and founder of the Jewish Renewal movement, will explore the connections between Jewish spirituality (including Hasidism and Kabbalah) with the universalist Sufi path of Hazrat Inayat Khan, through spiritual conversation and practice, music and zikr with his grandson and successor, Pir Zia Inayat-Khan.
