BIOGRAPHIES

wisdombio2Colleen Reed (Lama Jigme Chotso) formally became a Buddhist in 1978, taking Refuge Vows with Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche (of Karma Triyana Dharmachakra in Woodstock, NY). For the next 14 years, in additional to personal practice and study, she assisted in the dharma activities of her local Chicago center. When her teachers, Bardor Rinpoche and Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche, traveled to Chicago, Lama Colleen often hosted them in her family’s home.

In 1992, Lama Colleen began preparing for a traditional 3-year cloistered group retreat at Karme Ling Retreat Center in Delhi, New York. The retreat commenced in the early spring of 1993, and was led by Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche.

In 1996, Lama Colleen formally completed the retreat, and for the next 8 years served her spiritual community through giving dharma talks, teaching meditation practice, and conducting liturgical services. In 2004, Lama Colleen returned to Karme Ling retreat center for another period of more intensive meditation practice.

In 2008, Lama Colleen moved to a small off-grid house in a rural area of west-central New York. In addition to her dharma pursuits, she currently works part-time as a caregiver for developmentally disabled adults, and as a teacher assistant at the Ithaca Waldorf School.
