Warm greetings dear friends,

Our beloved Murshid, Hazrat Inayat Khan, teaches us that, Subtlety of perception and subtlety of expression are the signs of the wise…In order to acquire spiritual knowledge, in order to receive inspiration, in order to prepare one’s heart for the inner revelation, one must try to make one’s mentality pliable like water…”

This past year, the Inayatiyya has embraced the notion of subtlety from within and without. Pir Zia guided us through The Anatomy of Illumination, offering essential training on how to use our subtle body centers of inner perception to access intuitive faculties. We continued with Volume III of the Sufi Message series on The Art of Personality, which describes the subtle and creative process by which we can purposefully craft the qualities of our own human being.

We fostered subtlety by striving to interact with each other in a way that is “pliable like water” with the hope of collectively teasing out what directions the Order will take in merging ancient tradition with futuristic thinking. In both listening and being heard, we are recognizing the synergies that emerge when generations commingle, inclusion is prioritized, and different perspectives are honored.

The Astana continues to grow as a welcoming destination for our caravan of souls, including murids, ashiqs, cherished guests, teachers, musicians and seekers who travel, sometimes from great distances, to visit our spiritual home to share suhbat, zikr, tea, and stories. Our amazing staff is mastering the subtle and sacred art of hospitality, creating an atmosphere of beauty and refinement that graciously holds the attunement of our gatherings, while seeming effortless.

Subtlety can help lead us out of the entrenched, rock-like paralysis that many of us may feel in reaction to current events as we find ways to optimistically be of service to others. Noor-un-Nisa Inayat Khan is our exemplar in this goal. Her subtlety and pliability allowed her to use the inner qualities of her personality to transform from poet, writer and musician to courageous World War II heroine whose soul remained free through the worst of worldly circumstances.

Murshid’s prescient delineation of the order’s activities, which address the environment, healing, spiritual wisdom, human relationships, inter-religious devotion, and personal conduct, creates a relevant template through which we can focus our personal and collective interests, toward modern stewardship of the current world.

We are deeply grateful for all of your contributions as part of our caravan. If the Inayatiyya and Murshid’s teachings have helped you hone your own subtlety to acquire spiritual knowledge, receive inspiration, or prepare your heart for inner revelation, please consider making a generous donation this year.

In love and service,

The Inayatiyya Board of Trustees including Mellen Kennedy (chair), Hakima Normand (vice chair), Tajalli Roselli (secretary), Raga Sprowls (treasurer), Isfandarmuz Hanna, Fatima Hafiz-Muid, Arcadia Khatidja Rodriguez, Yaqin Aubert (vice president) & Pir Zia Inayat-Khan (president)

P.S. Throughout 2020 we will focus on alchemy, transformation, healing, mental purification and the mind world. To sustainably go forward with all that is planned, we need to raise $200,000 through this year’s fall appeal. We have already raised half of this amount (Alhamdulillah!) and need your help with the second half, another $100,000. If you make a gift of $25 or more (in addition to tithes) by Saturday, December 21st, it will be our pleasure to thank you with a symbolic gift – audio of a special talk and meditation by Pir Zia, foreshadowing teachings coming in the new year. http://inayatiyya.org/donate. Thank you!
