The Art of Healing

The Art of Healing is a doorway of exploration for anyone interested in the Sufi Healing teachings of Hazrat Inayat Khan. In this course we will study the methodologies of Healing that are centered around the practice of building presence. By developing presence through explorations of the heart, the 5 domains, the elements and magnetism, deep transformation can be found within the body, mind, heart, and soul. 

Dates & Themes

September 9th—The Heart 

“It is the heart quality, it is the spiritual outlook which will change the world’. Hazrat Inayat Khan

Dr. Bayt-ul-Haram Raqib Kogan & Bayt-ul-Haram Nur Alima Smith will lead an in depth study on practices of the heart. Students will learn how to use heart centered tools, such as sensing, listening, attending and moving energy through the heart.

October 14th—The 5 Domains 

In this session, Jalil Buechel will attune us to the 5 Domains; Physical, Mental, Emotional, Moral and Spiritual. Practices for experiencing and working with each Domain will be shared.

November 11th—The Elements 

Dr. Bayt-ul-Haram Raqib Kogan will explore the five elements (earth, water, fire, air and ether) and how they affect the harmony and health of one’s life and well-being.

December 9th—Magnetism 

“No one can be healed without magnetism.“ – Hazrat Inayat Khan

 Bayt-ul-Haram Nur Alima Smith & Jalila Chris Wheeler Botsford will share the role of magnetic energy in our lives, the effect of its vitality upon ourselves and others, and how to build personal magnetism.

Logistical Details

Classes are on Saturdays, September 9th, October 14th, November 11th and December 9th from 3-4:30 pm New York Time, 9-10:30 pm Central European Time.  

This course is open to ashiqs, murids and all with a sincere interest. Come to all or any part of the series. 

The Art of Healing series requires advanced registration and provides video recordings if you are unable to attend every class. A suggested tuition of $48 ($12 per class) is recommended for the whole course. There is also a limited income/student tuition rate of $32 ($8/class). Please see the sidebar to register.

    Devi Tide

    Devi Tide is the Kefayat (Head) and Vice President of the Sufi Healing Order in North America, New Zealand and Australia. She has over thirty years of experience as a teacher of healing and the esoteric sciences, bringing the qualities of wisdom, heart, subtlety, humor, and intelligence to her role. Devi has contributed to and offered programs in India, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and North America. In her seminars, public speaking, and individual sessions and retreats, Devi represents the inner vitality and harmony of the body, mind and spirit, the vitality of our interconnected world, as well as personal transformation. 

  • Raqib Misha Kogan M.D.
    Raqib Misha Kogan M.D.

    Raqib Misha Kogan, M.D. received his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. He’s the medical director of the GW Center for Integrative Medicine and associate professor of medicine in the division of Geriatrics and Palliative Care at George Washington University. Raqib has been on the Sufi path since 2001 and is a Conductor in the Inayatiyya Healing Activity. Together with his wife Rafia, he completed Suluk training in 2007. Raqib has been working closely with Devi Tide and other Healing Activity leaders for over 10 years and has assisted in organizing and running many annual Leadership Retreats. Raqib’s goal is to bring healing wisdom and practices of the Inayatiyya to more people, especially those who are vulnerable. To achieve this goal, Raqib founded AIM Health Institute, a non-profit organization in the Washington, D.C. area that provides integrative medicine services to low-income and terminally ill patients regardless of their ability to pay.

  • Nur Alima Smith
    Nur Alima Smith

    Nur Alima Smith is a Shafayat, a Cherag, a Healing Conductor and a Raphaelite Healer in the Inayatiyya Healing Activity. She is adept with various breathing techniques, having studied this for 35 years. Nur Alima brings the Inayati philosophy and practices to the community groups. She has run many trainings for staff and volunteers in Hospice and multiple Veteran Organizations focusing on these techniques and how to heal oneself with the breath. Since 2015 Nur Alima has also led a weekly meditation group for Veterans who have PTSD. Her additional work with the Veteran Community includes teaching meditation and relaxation techniques to those on active duty about to be deployed and those who have just returned from combat. She also leads a monthly meditation session for Hospice volunteers and staff.Nur Alima serves on the Inayatiyya Healing steering committee, and lives in Syracuse, New York.

  • Haqqiqa Noor Gail Stephenson
    Haqqiqa Noor Gail Stephenson

    Haqqiqa Noor is a Shafayat and holds the Healing Concentration for Australia.
    Driven by a passion to empower others to help themselves, Haqqiqa Noor taught yoga for 16 years in ashrams as well as in the wider community. More recently, having been present during the deaths of close family and friends over the years, she was led to volunteer in palliative support, trained as a death doula, and continued this work for 11 years. She feels privileged to be able to sit with people who have a life ending condition, in the sacredness that exists at that time. Haqqiqa Noor has a family of adult daughters and a newly adult granddaughter with whom she treasures spending joyful times and going on many adventures.

  • Jalila Chris Botsford
    Jalila Chris Botsford

    Jalila Chris Botsford has been a student, facilitator and teacher of many forms of holistic healing for over 25 years. As a holistic health practitioner, working both in person and long-distance, she utilizes energy healing, cranial sacral and the foundational Sufi practices of presence, breath, light and guided meditation in her Spiritual Energy Sessions. She also leads individual sessions, workshops and retreats based on Carolyn Myss’s Archetypal Sacred Contracts course. Jalila’s passion for healing and service has led her to Africa, Haiti and Guatemala working in hospitals and clinics in impoverished communities.

  • Jalil Buechel
    Jalil Buechel

    Jalil Buechel is a Shafayat and Cherag. He has been practicing Sufism for over 50 years. He is a friend and student of Himayat Inayati, founder of the Raphaelite Work. Using such Raphaelite Work tools as presence and inquiry, he has guided individuals toward uncovering their own essential qualities. Prior to the Raphaelite Work, he taught in Murshida Vera Corda’s Seed Centers. These were schools dedicated to the spiritual growth of children in all their five domains. He still considers children to be his primary teachers as they are all advanced in the field of playful curiosity. As the brother of a sibling with autism, he decided on a career in special education and spent most of his 40 years in that field helping children, individuals, and families with severe emotional issues. Since retiring in 2015, he has tutored immigrants and refugees in English composition through local non-profits in Ithaca NY.
