The Alchemy of Knighthood
Inner Change and the 40 Rules of the Knighthood of Purity

You are invited to join Sikander, Basira, and special guests as we embark on a noble quest to explore the alchemical process of inner change while working with the 40 Rules of the Knighthood of Purity as we walk the path of chivalry. Through the four weeks we will explore the origins of the Knighthood Activity and the 40 Rules, practices for purification, inner alchemy, and chivalry as laid out through the teachings of Pir-o-Murshid Hazrat Inayat Khan, as well as Pir Zia’s commentaries on the rules. This course is open to everyone — especially current and prospective heralds, and anyone drawn to chivalry, alchemy, or the Knighthood Activity. All four classes will be led by Sikander, with additional input from Basira and Suhrawardi.

Sessions are from 8:00 – 9:15 pm ET (New York) / 5:00 – 6:15 pm PT (Los Angeles). To see the start time in your own location, check your local time here. If you’re joining from Australia or New Zealand, sessions fall on Thursday, local time.
All are welcome. Come to all or any parts of the series.
Tuition
We offer three tuition levels so that cost need not stand between you and this course.
- Supporter — $120 for the series ($30 per class). If you’re able to give a little more, this helps sustain the course and the wider work of the Inayatiyya.
- Standard — $80 for the series ($20 per class). Our suggested level.
- Limited Income — $40 for the series ($10 per class). If the standard level is a stretch.
These rates are set to keep this teaching within reach rather than to reflect what it costs to offer. Gifts at the Supporter level help make the lower levels possible and support the Inayatiyya’s work beyond this course.
Please choose the level that best reflects your circumstances. We ask that you choose in good conscience rather than by any outward measure — no explanation is needed, and no one is asked to justify their choice.
If even the Limited Income level is out of reach, scholarships are available. Please contact astana@inayatiyya.org before registering so we can process your request.

Basira K. JohnsonBasira is the current Chancellor of the Knighthood of Purity Activity and has dedicated her time and energy not only to handling the administrative elements of the Knighthood, but also to editing the Chivalry in Our Times quarterly newsletter. She organized and created a free app for Apple and Android that tracks a user’s progress through the 40 Rules contemplations. She also facilitates an Adab Support Group and manages the Knighthood Council, an advisory body to the Knighthood.

Suhrawardi GebelSuhrawardi is the Chancellor Emeritus of the Knighthood, having launched the revival of this activity in 2010 at the request of Pir Zia. He also helped launch the Adab Curriculum, an advanced curriculum open to practitioners who have finished the 40 Rules, and supplied half of the commentaries available with it. He further facilitated the launch of the Emerald Contemplations, a third curriculum within the Knighthood of Purity. His knowledge and wisdom are unmatched, and as a guest speaker he will undoubtedly prove to be of great value to all participants.

Sikander Scott Von HeldtSikander is a Representative and co-leader of the SoCal Inayatiyya Center for Spiritual Liberty in Los Angeles, California. He is a Knight of Purity working on a second round of the rules for Grand Master status and has been offering monthly Knighthood classes online since January 2026. He is also a graduate of Sulūk, Emergent Leaders, a Healing Conductor, and a retreat guide. His sincere interest in alchemical transformation and the refinement of the human spirit have led him to create this series to explore the deeper impact the rules play in testing one’s mettle and bringing about profound inner change.
