Alice Mahbud Wood
A dear friend to many in the Boston community, Alice Mahbud Wood, has passed into the afterlife. She passed peacefully in her sleep on March 27, 2025. For many decades she lived in Newton and last Fall had moved to Pittsburgh to live closer to her grandson.
We remember Mahbud as a dedicated member of our Sufi community with decades of participation. She was both a Cheraga and a Healing conductor. Some of you may remember that she managed the bookstore at the Khanqah in Jamaica Plain. Over the years, she was a regular presence at classes and retreats. She was a dedicated practitioner and a kind and intelligent person, always with new books or music to recommend! Her qualities of friendship, beauty and joy were always a heart welcoming embrace. For years she worked as a teacher in the public schools.
An online service and remembrance for Mahbud will take place on Sat. June 7th at 11:00 a.m. ET. Those who knew Mahbud and would like to come and pay their respects and share a memory or a blessing are welcome to attend! If you would like to attend, please request the zoom link by Thursday, June 5th at inayatiorder@gardenlight.org.
