The Knighthood of Purity is a modern-day practice of chivalry, handed down from ancient times through the prophets and mystics and now affiliated with the Sufis. The practitioner takes vows to cultivate the qualities of courage and generosity, building nobility of character in the service of humanity.
If you have ever wondered what it would be like to be a Knight, you are cordially invited to join Knighthood Vice President Sarfaraz Berger in this introduction to the Inayatiyya Knighthood of Purity on May 6th from 3:00-4:30 ET.
We will be discussing the service-oriented, chivalric values of Hazrat Inayat Khan found within the Iron, Copper, Silver and Golden Rules and how they translate into daily life. All are welcome to join, whether Sufi initiates or not; and for those wishing to begin their personal journey into Knighthood, further details of next steps will be shared.
An Introduction to Knighthood will be held on Saturday, May 6th from 3-4:30 pm New York Time, 9-10:30 pm Central Europe Time.Â

Alia Sura ArnesenAlia Sura Arnesen is a musician and spiritual guide. Together with Shams Uwais, she welcomes spiritual seekers at Shamali nature- and retreat center at the north-west coast of Norway. She also regularly offers musical attunements and meditations online open to all.

Sarfaraz BergerSarfaraz Berger MLIS, was introduced to Sufism in 2001 at Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan’s retreat on Consciousness and Conscientiousness and loves the Knighthood of Purity. In 2016, she began leading the local Knighthood activity in Western Mass and has recently become the Honorable Suhrawardi Gebel’s successor as North American VP of the Knighthood of Purity. She is a meditation teacher, cybersecurity author, and anti-slavery advocate whose research on the cybersecurity of drones informed drone data privacy policy design for the cities of Boston and Toronto. As a former Pediatric Registered Nurse and health columnist concerned with computer-based patient records and confidentiality, she has published articles addressing online safety and the privacy rights of children and patients. She lives happily ever after with her chivalrous husband, Dan Berger, and their two cats in the USA.

Rashid Brian GilbaneRashid Brian Gilbane, a retired clinical social worker living in California, has been a Murid since 2003 and a member of the Knighthood since 2017. He has been the Northern California Representative for the Inner School since 2020, a member of the NA Ethics Oversight Committee since 2021 – becoming its Chair the following year, and has served on the Board of Trustees since 2022.
